Aquatic Sports:
Aquatic sports cover all the water based disciplines such as long and short course swimming, open water swimming, synchronised swimming, diving, water polo, sailing, water skiing, paddle sports and even underwater hockey.
Each sport displays it own specific traits in terms of physical preparation for example, water polo and synchronised swimming are concerned with achieving maximum height out of the water when blocking a shot and performing a team lift respectively. Where as long and short course swimmers are concerned with increasing the speed which they can propel themselves through the water. Ultimately each athlete is looking to produce maximal amount of force against the water in order to move through it or out of it. The exception to this rule are in turns and starts and in diving where applying force to the board in order to achieve maximum height is the main consideration. At DNA Sports Performance we have the knowledge and experience to help you achieve and maximise your aquatic propulsive forces.
Athlete Case Study –
Working in partnership with the English Institute of Sport (EIS) and GB Water Polo, DNA Sports Performance has been working with the potential stars of 2012. GB’s assault on the water polo super powers is gaining momentum with the hard work that the male and female athletes have been putting in to maximise their physiological potential. The area which we have been focused on is trying to increase the athlete’s ability to get out of the water and also their shooting power. The graph below displays the changes in strength, power and body composition over 10 weeks.
