Endurance Sports:

The banner of endurance sports covers a large number of disciplines including common sports such as running, cycling and swimming but also includes walking, cross country skiing, modern pentathlon, triathlon and rowing.

The defining factor among all these sports is for the athlete to be able to produce force continuously at high levels during the event. Any drop off in this ability will result in performance impairments. Additionally due to the longitudinal nature of the sports, repetitive strain injuries are a major consideration and need to be catered for in comprehensive pre-habilitation package. At DNA Sports Performance we have a huge amount of expertise in designing interventions to meet all of the needs which an endurance athlete displays.

Athlete Case Study –

The University of Salford rowing squad has been working intensively with DNA Sports Performance since November 2007. During this time training has focused on improving their ability to produce force and then apply it on multiple occasions. Additionally preventative measures were also put into place to help tackle the injury rate of the athletes over the season. Ultimately the adaptations which the crews displayed were nothing short of exceptional and were a reward of the hours of hard work which they put in. The graph below displays their improvements over the 24 weeks of interventions which equates to a 23.9% increase in power during this period.

Graph showing the power output of 10 power strokes on three testing dates conducted over 24 weeks(T1 = before training with DNA sports Performance / T2 = early adaptations after 10 weeks / T3 = continued adaptations after 24 weeks of training with DNA Sports Performance)
