Motorsport:

Motorsport disciplines include auto racing, motorcycle racing, air racing, motorboat racing and snowmobile racing. Within auto racing for example there are a number of classes including: single-seater, touring cars, production cars, rallying and karting.

In every discipline it is now becoming increasingly important for the competitive motorsport athlete to maximise their physical abilities. The designers and engineers spend hour’s fine tuning the machines and likewise the same attention to detail needs to be applied to athlete racing the machine. Characteristics which should be maximised within a motorsport athlete may include, body composition management, physiological conditioning, postural integrity, muscular strength and endurance of upper body limbs and neck, lower body isometric strength and maintenance of reactions when fatigued.

Athlete Case study–

DNA Sports Performance has been working intensively with Carlin Motorsport’s Formula 3 National Class competitor Andy Meyrick. Whilst under our guidance Andy has been accepted on the prestigious MSA British Race Elite Programme and is currently leading the national class field. By working on enhancing a number of physical components such as body composition (<3.5%), physiological conditioning (>17%) and upper body sports specific performance indicators (>29%), Andy is working hard to maximise his physical preparation which will give him the edge on the track.
