Multiple Sprint:
Various sporting disciplines are covered under the banner of multiple sprint sports (MSS). Sports which are characterised by short periods of maximal intensity activity and followed by static or active recovery periods are classed as MSS. Examples include football, rugby league, rugby union, hockey, netball, handball, basketball, lacrosse, korfball and even ultimate frisbee.
All of these sporting disciplines require athletes to rapidly accelerate and decelerate, track and/or evade, and possibly change direction whist on the move or from a static or moving start. The sports also require the ability to produce maximal force in short periods of time (<0.1sec) and apply this force to the ground, an object or person. All of these characteristics are trainable under the guidance of DNA Sports Performance.
Athlete Case Study –
DNA Sports Performance has been working with 17 year old, 90kg and 196cm, 2nd row forward James King for over two years now. During this time James has continually developed all the attributes needed to perform rugby on an international stage such as acceleration, ability to track and evade opponents and power in the contact area and scrum. He was rewarded for his hard work and commitment this year when he was capped by Wales U18, representing them at the Six Nations tournament in Ireland. Additionally he has just signed a full time contract for the Ospreys region.
